Signposts Introduction

Parenting is not an easy journey; every child is different in terms of their temperament and personality, and sometimes, the strategies that work for one child will not work so well for another. The parenting journey may be even more challenging when our child has a developmental concern. We at the Department of Child Development (DCD), KKH, acknowledge that while we may be the experts in child development and behaviour management, you, the parents, are the experts on your child. You will know what may work for your family context. And you can make the key decisions in your child’s life.

The Signposts parenting programme was designed to understand basic behavioural principles that govern all of our behaviour. It helps parents be more observant, and better able to plan for and anticipate future behaviour issues. Each module builds on the other.

The programme is conducted in a group setting, so that you can also hear from other parents, and know that you’re not alone in this journey. All the materials will be provided to you, so that you can read and revise the material on your own time. A trained Signposts facilitator will guide you through the five weekly sessions, to help you apply the principles to your child and family.
